A Sneak-Peak Into the New Age of Wheel Loaders

Human beings have come to learn a lot over the years, and yet their most valuable piece of knowledge talks to improving at a consistent pace. This tendency to get better, no matter the situation, has brought the world some huge milestones, with technology emerging as quite a major member of the group. The reason why we hold technology in such a high regard is, by and large, predicated upon its skill-set, which guided us towards a reality that nobody could have ever imagined otherwise. Nevertheless, if we look beyond the surface for one hot second, it will become abundantly clear how the whole runner was also very much inspired from the way we applied those skills across a real world environment. The latter component, in fact, did a lot to give the creation a spectrum-wide presence, and as a result, initiate a full-blown tech revolution. Of course, this revolution eventually went on to scale up the human experience through some outright unique avenues, but even after achieving a feat so notable, technology will somehow continue to bring forth the right goods. The same has turned more and more evident in recent times, and assuming one new construction-themed development ends up with the desired impact, it will only put that trend on a higher pedestal moving forward.

Caterpillar has officially announced the launch of its brand-new product, 988 GC Wheel Loader, which is designed to ensure a safe operation whenever a customer moves large loads or any material on the jobsite. To give you a gist about the new product’s capabilities, it demands almost 5% less fuel and over 15% less maintenance costs than the Cat 988K. According to certain reports, the wheel loader comes decked up with the means to offer somewhere around 670 tonnes/hour performance in shot rock truck loading applications, and up to 527 tonnes/hour worth of performance for carrying out load-and-carry operations.  Staying on the loader’s performance-related features, it is powered by a Cat C15 engine. This is a significant detail if you look at it from an environment lens, considering the stated engine delivers configurations to emit equivalent to EU Stage IIIA/U.S. EPA Tier 3 or meet EU Stage V/U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emissions standards. Moving on, the loader’s cooling package allows you to leverage high heat rejection, and on-demand fan strategy, with two available fan speed settings for standard and high ambient temperature configurations. Complimenting the same is Cat’s torque converter and standard lock-up clutch that minimizes losses, lowers system heat, supports travel times, and even reduces cycle times in load-and-carry operations. Another one of Caterpillar’s renowned mechanism brought into play here is the Advanced Power Electronic Control Strategy transmission (APECS). In case you aren’t aware, APECS extends the prospect of a performance boasting consistent shifting. As a result, forward momentum and torque are thoroughly maintained when shifting for momentum on grades. Then, there is the transmission neutralizer pedal which extends service brake life and enables full power during stationary loading, whereas the loader’s load sensing hydraulics direct hydraulic flow to steering systems only when needed to optimize operation of the new 988 GC. We even have an optional ride control bringing an auxiliary accumulator to the lift circuit for a smooth ride.

Going back to 988 GC’s operational abilities, the loader’s utility around the stated area are rooted in a Steering and Integrated Control (STIC), a control which promotes machine responsiveness to a meaningful degree. Furthermore, the loader is given a Cat Comfort Series III seat, providing it in a package which also contains a seat-mounted implement pod meant to moves with the seat. Anyway, you can simplify the picture even more using an intuitive operator interface; touchscreen display and soft detent implement controls. There is also a piece of technology responsible for applying cab isolation mounts and seat air suspension so to reduce machine vibration feedback to the operator. While we are discussing specialized features for operators, it might be worth our while to mention how the loader in question also has a Product Link offering wireless access to operating data for insight into how the machine is functioning on a granular and holistic level. As for security, though, the brand new 988 GC has Cat Detect technology that provides complete awareness of the environment around working equipment. We referred to enhancing visibility; the loader’s Z-bar front lift arm design also provides visibility of the bucket edges and work area to secure the operation.  Hold on, we still haven’t touched on the vehicle’s optional Cat Payload which provides on-the-go weighing for materials hauled and loaded. Backing this up is an optional Advanced Productivity subscription supplying actionable information to help manage operations.

Rounding off the highlights is how the loader conceives ground level or platform access to grouped service points delivering the necessary maintenance. This translates to easier routine checks.
