New summit will bring researchers, technology companies and farming experts together to explore how automation, precision agriculture and digital tools can reshape food production

Little Rock, Arkansas, 10 September 2026 – Agriculture is entering a new technology-driven era as artificial intelligence, robotics, sensors and automation become increasingly important to the way food is grown, processed and distributed. Bringing these technologies into everyday farming could help producers improve efficiency, use resources more carefully and respond to changing demands.

Against this backdrop, IEEE USA and the IEEE Japan Office are preparing to host the Innovation, Workforce, and Research Conference Smart Agriculture Technology Summit on October 13, 2026, in Little Rock, Arkansas. The event will bring together agricultural technology leaders, researchers, entrepreneurs, industry experts, and other stakeholders from the United States and Japan to explore the future of smart farming.

The summit is being organized in partnership with Japan’s National Agriculture and Food Research Organization, known as NARO, and the IEEE Smart Ag Initiative. Its focus will include artificial intelligence, agricultural automation, robotics, precision agriculture, food technology, and global food security.

The partnership between Arkansas and Japan is built around a shared interest in improving agricultural productivity. Arkansas is the largest rice-producing state in the United States and has extensive experience in large-scale farming and agricultural research. Japan, meanwhile, has developed advanced farming technologies despite having limited arable land.

These different strengths create an opportunity for collaboration. Japan has made significant advances in agricultural robotics, precision irrigation, autonomous equipment, and AI-powered farming systems.
